Descriptionkhawachen 's dedication to Tibetan rug weaving begins with its founder ,Kesang Tashi,a Tibetan-American and native son of Shangrila Yunnan. In 1986,Tashi, a Dartmouth-educated international banker, returned to his homeland to take on a challenge of restoring Tibet's centuries-old rug-weaving tradition. He pioneered an arts and crafts movement within Tibet, resulting in a resurgence of pride for this vital component of Tibets's cultural heritage, and creating a sustainable livelihood for a new generation of artists, dye masters, weavers, wool carders, and yarn spinners in Tibet. Khawachen is recognized as the custodian of Tibet's rug-weaving heritage, and the pioneer and international standard bearer for the production of authentic Tibetan rugs in Tibet. Tibet is the roof of the world and home of the worlds highest mountain ranges, including the Himalayas with the majestic Everest. This desolate highland is the home of the hardy Tibetan nomads and their hardy breed of the Tibetan native sheep that provides the choicest wool fiber in the word for Khawachen rugs. Tibetan nomads represent the Tibetan character. The country harsh climate and geography draw them close to nature. They are humble, fiercely free-spirited and resourceful. Centuries of Buddhist teachings endowed them with many Buddhist traits. This dichotomy results in a dynamic dual personality: free and bold on one hand and methodical and intellectual on the other,There exists a creative tension consistent in Tibetan aesthetic expression in their fine arts and decorative arts such as rug weaving. Tibetanslove of colors is expressed in their painting, sculpture, architecture, decorative arts and clothing. In the Potala Palace, in the monasteries, in the interiors of the holy temples, or in humble village homes, color is as much an invocation to their Gods as it is a celebration of life. Designs and symbolism in the Khawachen rugs and the brilliant execution of the colors are all a part of this proud heritage.
